A huge thank you to all the volunteers who made our Hockey Weekend Across America event so special. We had the rare opportunity to introduce the sport we love to a whole new group of kids. Even if they don’t decide to play, they will have a new appreciation for the sport. A special thanks to the Clements High School Hockey team, the Houston HERricane Girls Hockey Club and the Houston Aeros. And, of course, thank you Chilly! We hope to have photos and video of the event posted soon.

VANCOUVER 2010
Every four years the world turns its attention to winter sports. From luge to alpine skiing to nordic combined, our breath is taken away as humans travel at lightning speeds and tempt mortality with death defying leaps down dangerous mountains. But the sports the Sugar Land Ice family waits for are the ones that take place on the ice. The beauty and glory of often misunderstood ice sports are why we wake before dawn to bring our children to the ice cold of an early morning rink. It’s why grown men wait until the wee hours of the morning to claim a valuable piece of ice for a friendly hockey game. It’s why so many people with a love of ice sports give it all to the dream. Yes, we are ready to share in the joy and suspense that will be Vancouver 2010. Bring on the skating: figure, speed and hockey!!! For now, we’ll just have to wait. (Click for official Vancouver 2010 website.)

Public fun sessions are a blast. The rink is turned over to bumper cars, broomball, snow play and other on ice activities. So gather up your buddies and besties and try it out! It’s the perfect way to kick some ice!
