Mark Janoschak
The longer I teach, the more I uncover how interrelated the various disciplines of Figure Skating are, and how dependant on quality basic principles. As a father of 2 young ones, my dedication to teach my own children to learn properly from the beginning parallels the guidance I strive to give professionally. Whether it is learning to use dental floss, or land double flips, it is always better to get the basics down right. With a strong foundation, our children can meet the world head-on and succeed. |

B.L. Wylie After many active years of skating as family, being the wife of a club president, the dance partner of her husband, a figure skating judge, a mother of 3 skaters, a manager of two skate boutiques, B.L. Wylie finally put on the coat, boots and ski pants to coach movement on the ice, with a primary focus on component marks. With the point system of the new IJS system, the concentration on building strong skating skills, transitions, quick and accurate footwork, and musicality in performance have become vitally important. As she shares the knowledge she gained from both her B.S. in Physical Education and guiding her own children from shaky first steps to the Olympics, she shares a perspective of tenacity and perseverance as a life skill, in addition to preparing students for the enjoyment of their competitive experiences. Now, after 40+ years in the sport, some of the skaters she has coached have not only competed locally but in regional, sectional, national and international arenas. Serving as the current chairman of the USFS Basic Skills committee, the Vice Chair of the Parents Committee, Vice Chair of Membership Committee, and a member of the Special Olympics committee, allows B.L. to participate in the development of new and more comprehensive skating activities throughout the nation. B.L.’s goal for her final years in figure skating, is to find the avenue which will allow every interested child an opportunity to feel the blades glide across that shiny white surface called ice, and learn to enjoy the “sport for a lifetime.” |
