Sugar Land Ice & Sports Hockey Academy is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skills. Classes start with introducing skaters to the fundamentals of skating and build up to skills such as stick handling, passing and shooting. Please note that certain equipment is required for each class. Sugar Land Ice does not provide the equipment. Specific equipment needs are noted in the class descriptions listed below.
Late Summer Semester Hockey Academy Classes

MIGHTY MITES
Sundays, 1:30pm-2:30pm: Ages 7 and Under
An equivalent alternative Hockey 1 session is available on Thursday evenings through the Learn to Skate Program. We recommend that beginner skaters under age 7 complete our Snowplow Sam program before joining Mighty Mites. Please visit our Learn To Skate page for more information.
Students enrolled in the Hockey Academy receive PUBLIC SESSIONS at a discounted rate of ONLY $6.00 PER SESSION. Skate rental is included. Students are also entitled to a 10% discount on all pro shop merchandise.
HOCKEY 1 : The curriculum for the Hockey 1 class is designed to teach basic skating skills. The objectives of the class are to teach good body position and body control, while introducing the concept of edges. Classes are 30 minutes in length and are held on Sundays at 12:00pm. HELMET AND FACEMASK REQUIRED (we do not supply this). Cost : $150.00. 8 Weeks.
HOCKEY 2, 3, & 4 : These classes introduce and explore the concepts of skating, stickhandling, passing, and shooting. Full equipment is required. Classes are held on Sundays at 12:30pm and are 1 hour in length. Cost : $150.00. 8 Weeks. FULL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED (we do not supply the equipment).
MIGHTY MITES: This class is designed for players 7 years old and under. Classtimes are Sundays at 1:30pm. Games and drills designed by the Hockey Academy and USA Hockey Mite Initiation Program are used to introduce players to the skills needed for team play. Cost : $130.00. 8 Weeks. FULL EQUIPMENT (we do not supply the equipment).
ADULT SKATING FUNDAMENTALS: This program focuses on developing proper skating techniques such as edge control, fwd/bwd strides, fwd/bwd crossovers, and hockey stops. It is designed to improve the adult’s knowledge and understanding of correct execution in order to maximize stamina and endurance. For adults 18 or older. Classes are held on Sundays @ Noon for 1/2 hour. Cost : $130.00. 8 Weeks. FULL EQUIPMENT (we do not supply the equipment).
